What is killing Mumbai?

Being famous always comes with a price and Mumbai has paid that price very often. The latest and most apprehended being the 26/11 attacks which took lives of 138 people according to official figures. It has been 4 years and though the agony didn't abate but the hanging of Kasab seemed to have given justice to some people. But what else has happened since then...

Last year BMC was appreciated with the fall in Malaria cases, only to track a rise in cases of dengue which was considered a disease of poor but now dreaded by every being of every class. We lost the most veteran filmmaker Yash Chopra and many believe that Kasab died of dengue as well. Also 7,898 cases of dengue were recorded and 25 people have died this year. On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being the highest, the hatred towards mosquitoes stands at 100 right now. Mumbaikars seem to be on a mission - Macchar Mukt Mumbai. But despite all the efforts by BMC and mumbaikars alike, the cases of dengue are forever rising and the death toll is at its all time peak.

Every time we come across a rash driver we use this as a derogatory term, "Abe, BEST bus chalata tha kya pehle?" (Were you a BEST bus driver earlier?). I don't need to explain why we say this because our BEST bus drivers alone are responsible for 80 deaths over the past 2 years. 80 DEATHS. Meanwhile auto rickshaw drivers say that they need extended time till March 31 to recalibrate their ancient mechanical meters. Extension for what? A scam?

Local trains, the life line of Mumbai, blames careless travellers for the accident but a report says that as many as 10 people die EVERYDAY in Mumbai due to train accidents and this is considering the sluggishness of railways in implementing remedial measures.

While we live and tolerate all this, Taliban vows to attack India with terrorist for hanging Ajmal Kasab. All that the common man has to say is that, "Taliban if you are planning to kill us, kripya pratiksha karein aap katar mein hain" (Please wait, you are in queue).
